Virtual 5K raises nearly $60,000 for Cass County Dental Clinic

BELTON, Mo., (Sept. 8, 2020) – The virtual 26th Annual 5K for Health raised nearly $60,0000 for Cass Community Health Foundation’s safety net dental clinic, Cass County Dental Clinic.

The 5K for Health is annual fundraiser hosted by Cass Community Health Foundation (CCHF) every year to benefit Cass County Dental Clinic and its patients. The clinic is the first and only safety net dental clinic, in Cass County, Missouri with locations in Belton and Harrisonville. Thousands of low-income children aged 0-20 are served at the clinic each year.

The event, presented by Belton Regional Medical Center and Cosentino’s Price Chopper, is typically hosted in the beginning of May. CCHF rescheduled the 5K for Saturday, August 29 and made the decision to take the event virtual in order to keep attendees safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. The virtual event was live streamed on Facebook and YouTube at 8 a.m. Saturday, August 29. Walkers and runners were then encouraged to complete their 5K in their own neighborhoods.

Top fundraising companies included Belton Regional Medical Center with $3,885, LifeGoals Strategies Group, led by former Harrisonville mayor Kevin Wood, with $2,307 and the Cass County Dental Clinic team with $1,596.13. Wood was the top individual fundraiser raising $1,960 and earning the grand prize of a Garmin vívofit 4.

Walkers registered for the 5K for free and were encouraged to raise money or make a personal donation. Runners paid a registration fee, used a personal timing device to record their time and submitted their results online.

Sara Jones of the Belton School District chaired the event, Al Voelker with the Raymore-Peculiar School District co-chaired the event and Chase Coffman, former NFL tight end, Missouri Hall of Famer and Ray-Pec High School graduate served as honorary chair.

“While we missed seeing everyone on the Belton Regional Medical Center campus, we are proud that Cass County and the surrounding area were supportive of our virtual 5K for Health,” Cynthia Randazzo, CCHF president said. “The virtual event allowed our support network to expand beyond our community. We’re excited that those from afar are creating smiles for the patients at Cass County Dental Clinic. ”
