    Duties and Responsibilites

    • Provides diagnostic, therapeutic and emergency dental services to patients
      • Medical histories are reviewed at every visit
      • All pathologic conditions are charted and reported to the patient
      • A written treatment plan developed with all options explained to the patient
      • Make oral examination of patients to determine oral health; records number of teeth, their condition, position and relationship to each other; notes types, size and location of fillings; checks conditions of gums; evaluates bone support for teeth
      • The approximate number of visits and the time to complete care is noted on the treatment plan
      • Patients are first treated for pain and infection
      • Where appropriate, referrals are made to specialists
      • Enters and signs all treatment provided on the treatment page
      • Meets clinical standards of practice as described in the quality assurance program
      • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel
      • Attains all agreed to goals and objectives within specified time frames, as part of the Clinic’s overall mission
      • Recommends revisions in the quality assurance program to the Practice Manager
      • Refers patient grievances that cannot be resolved to the Practice Manager.
    • Supervises care delivered by dentists, dental hygienists and assistants
      • Instructs assigned dental assistants in chair side, laboratory, sterilization and radiology procedures
      • Oversees maintenance and cleanliness of dental operatory
      • Delegates expanded duties in accordance with skills of dental auxiliary and the Extended Care Permit within limits of laws of the State of Missouri
      • Participates with the Practice Manager in scheduled evaluations of staff dentists
    • Assures integration of patient education into all treatment phases
      • Refers patients to the dental hygienist
      • Discusses home care status and techniques with patients who demonstrate sub optimal plaque control
      • Provides consultation for dental hygienists when requested
      • Incorporates parent/guardian into education regime for every child
      • Explains importance of maintaining appointments sequence to every patient
      • Explains the need for maintenance of oral conditions as a priority to fixed prosthodontic treatment
    • All other duties as assigned

    Education and Experience

    • Graduation from a certified DDS/DMD program.
    • Prefer previous experience providing care at a community health center or similar environment preferred.

Position Summary

The dental office front desk staff is responsible for answering phones, scheduling appointments, obtaining necessary patient information, handling patient inquiries and other duties as delegated by the Practice Manager. Front desk staff must be fluent in English and Spanish.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Works in collaboration with the Practice Manager to manage the patient population, including but not limited to:

    • Obtains all necessary information and documentation from clinic patients
    • Utilizes dental software to accurately input all patient & insurance information, submit dental claims, post payments, and schedule appointments for dental services
    • Verifies each patient’s insurance eligibility on the day of the scheduled appointment
    • Reinforces proposed dental treatment and schedules appointments based on the dentist’s treatment plan
    • Sends recall appointment reminders, makes confirmation calls, and monitors patient appointment status and history
    • Accurately documents all patient contact in the patient’s account notes
    • Ensures that all patient paperwork is filled out completely and promptly scanned into the patient chart
    • Collects patient payments at time of service, maintains a balanced cash drawer, and prepares daily cash deposits
    • Maintains an appropriate supply of office supplies by properly disposing and replacing outdated products and ordering new products within a pre-determined budget and upon approval by the Dental Clinic Coordinator
    • Maintains all original copies of paperwork and makes copies as necessary to ensure an adequate supply
    • Explains importance of maintaining appointment sequence to every patient
    • Discusses complications that may result if the patient fails to complete the treatment plan
    • Complies with HIPAA standards
    • Translates for other staff members, when language assistance is needed
    • Any other duties as delegated by the Dentist or Practice Manager

    Works in collaboration with the Dental Clinic Staff to ensure safety of dental clinic staff and patients, including but not limited to:

    • Maintains compliance with OSHA standards
    • Responsible for the maintenance & cleanliness of the front office, break room, waiting area, and restrooms
    • Recognizes emergency situations and follows established emergency protocols
    • Any other duties as delegated by the Dentist or Practice Manager

    Education and Experience

    • High School Diploma or Equivalent
    • 1 year experience working in a dental office or other healthcare setting
    • Experience working with dental software is preferred, but not required
    • Experience working in a community health clinic is preferred, but not required
