Chesnie Baker

nursing student

From an early age, Chesnie Baker found comfort and confidence in helping others, though she wasn’t always certain of what career path to take. As she grew up, Chesnie realized that a fulfilling career would mean combining her natural compassion with the opportunity to make a meaningful impact. That clarity led her to pursue nursing — a profession where she could dedicate herself to the care and well-being of others.

As a graduate of Archie High School, Chesnie's education in Cass County played a vital role in preparing her for this journey.

“My education prepared me to become a nurse by allowing me the opportunities to take classes that would further my education and tailor my schedule to what would best suit me."

This support and opportunity gave Chesnie the skills and confidence she needed to pursue the nursing program at Rockhurst University.

Chesnie received an annual scholarship from Cass Community Health Foundation for the three and a half years she pursued her nursing degree. To her, the scholarship meant far more than financial relief—it was a vote of confidence, a message that others believed in her dreams and were willing to invest in her success. It was the encouragement Chesnie needed to continue working toward becoming the compassionate nurse she aspired to be.

Chesnie is passionate about the impact of scholarships on students’ lives. She believes potential donors should know their contributions go far beyond funding tuition.

“Their contribution is so much more than a donation to a foundation. It allows students to skip picking up those extra shifts for tuition money and gives them a chance to study. It tells students that their work thus far is something to be proud of; that others are proud of them too and willing to support them.”

Chesnie’s scholarships from Cass Community Health Foundation sent a powerful message: her work to become a nurse is recognized, appreciated, and supported.

Thanks to the generosity of donors and the resources provided by the foundation, Chesnie will become a nurse on the pediatric floor at The University of Kansas Health System, making a difference in the lives of those who need her most.

Cass Community Health Foundation is committed to support students like Chesnie. The foundation will continue to support additional local students from Archie High School, Belton High School, Midway High School, Drexel High School, Grandview High School, Harrisonville High School, Heartland Christian School, Pleasant Hill High School, Raymore-Peculiar High School, Sherwood Cass High School, or Training Center Christian School.
